About us
La Tempéra is a place for artistic development and exchange in rural areas, created in 2016 by Isabelle de Voldère, a painter who graduated from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris and restores paintings.
La Tempéra comprises several houses in the hamlet of Château-du-Bois, located between the Nièvre and Yonne regions, two hours from Paris.
We welcome artists, writers and creative people looking for a quiet place to concentrate on their projects, in the countryside and in contact with other creative people.
We also organize painting and sculpture exhibitions, concerts and painting courses.
The place is called La Tempéra in reference to a traditional painting technique based on natural products: eggs, blanc de Meudon and pigments, a technique we use to restore old paintings.
Stay at "La Tempera"
We welcome artists, writers and creative professionals all year round, for periods ranging from one to six months.
Each resident organizes his or her own schedule and activities, with opportunities to get together for meals, movie nights, yoga sessions, hikes and trips to explore local sites.
Spaces and rates
Voldoré Space
Espace Voldoré is a bright, 200 m² chalet on 2 levels, overlooking a half-hectare garden. On the first floor is a kitchen and toilet. This space is on the same level as the garden. On the second floor, a 100 m² space with a 6 m high ceiling, including a shower room, toilet and kitchenette. Ideal for painters, writers, theater and acoustic music rehearsals. This space can be used as a bedroom with a double bed or as a dormitory for 4 or 5 people.
Price for one month: €2,300 for 2 people, €20 per night per additional person (maximum 5 people).

Paul Eluard Space
Bright, airy loft (8 m high) with terrace, 62 m² living room, two mezzanines (13 and 20 m²), two bathrooms and two bedrooms. Ideal for 2 to 4 artists: illustrators, designers, architects, scriptwriters, writers.
Price for one month: €1,350 for 1 person, €1,800 for 2 people, €20 per night per additional person (maximum 4 people).

Claude Monet Space
A 100 m² duplex (60 on the first floor and 40 on the first floor) with a garden-view terrace, suitable for painters, illustrators, storytellers, researchers and writers.
The whole is rustic and functional:
First floor: a 60 m² studio with a kitchenette and a wall for stapling papers and canvases (2 x 2.5 m).
First floor: a 40 m² attic studio (5 m high), bathroom and separate toilet.
Beds can be installed on both floors.
Price for one month: 900€ for one person, 20€ per night per additional person (maximum 2 people).

Cezanne space
Espace Cézanne is a space for painters, writers, illustrators and acoustic musicians on the second floor of the Blue Tree House.
The wall for painting is 5.45m long by 2.45m high, overlooking a quiet garden, with bathroom and toilet, ceiling height 6m, with wood-burning stove, ideal for quiet people recharging their batteries. Internet connection is good.
Price for one month: 800€ for a single person.

Shared Spaces
The Library (63 m²): reading and study room, exhibition and stage.
The Living Room (30 m²): projection and conversation room next to the shared kitchen.

La Tempera Rules
Your space will be allocated to you on arrival, and the other buildings are private.
Please leave the premises in the same state of cleanliness as when you arrived.
We ask you to use energy sparingly (for example, to turn off lights when you leave a room), in the interests of the environment.
For supplies, Entrains-sur-Nohain is 4km away (Wednesday market) and Clamecy 20km away (medieval town with all shops) and Etais-la-Sauvin (grocery store).
If the artist doesn't have a car, he or she can borrow one of La Tempéra's bicycles and be driven by one of the venue's permanent members, within reason.
After 10 p.m., please ensure that the venue is quiet.
La Tempéra accepts no pets (except fish), drugs or alcohol, with the exception of table wine.
Getting there
By train
Take the train from Paris (Bercy station) to Cosne-sur-Loire (1h40, multiple trains per day). We can come pick you up at the station in Cosne-sur-Loire.
By car
"La Tempera" is located in Château-du-Bois, a hamlet 5 km from the town of Entrains-sur-Nohain. You can find us on Google Maps here. The drive from Paris takes about 2 hours.
